ABOUT CENTRE FOR CRIMINOLOGY, VICTIMOLOGY AND COMPENSATORY JURISPRUDENCE (CCVCJ)

`Criminology, Victimology, and Compensatory Jurisprudence' is the social science of victims, victimizations, and reaction to both. It comprises much more than the relationships between victims and offenders. Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behavior, informed by principles of sociology and other non-legal fields, including psychology, economics, statistics, and anthropology. Criminologists examine a variety of related areas, including the characteristics of people who commit crimes. Victimology deals with the individual suffering of victims. Victims have to undergo various aspects in criminal justice perspective, media, societal relations, etc. It also includes the study of victims of crime and everything that is concerned with such victims such as the right to restitution, compensation, assistance, and right to access to justice and fair treatment. The criminal justice system in India is focused primarily on punishment without giving much attention to the suffering of victims of crime. This lacuna has been sorted out in a plethora of cases where the apex court has awarded compensation to the victims. However, the problem related to victims still continues to rise. In order to overcome these situations there is a need to mobilize public opinion and sensitize criminal justice administrators to persuade the government and lawmakers to provide a comprehensive legal framework for assistance and compensatory relief to victims so as to protect their Human Rights. This center is established to undertake advanced study and research in the emerging areas of criminology, victimology and compensatory jurisprudence.
