It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including TV, digital platforms including social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite, and cable channels.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Legal Correspondent, you will originate and produce legally angled stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, filming, and presenting content for BBC Indian Languages. 

The role will extend beyond breaking news to writing insightful, analytical, and in-depth stories with a distinctive voice that covers topics such as human rights, constitutional matters, and women’s rights issues.

Duties will include:

  • Reporting breaking news stories
  • Writing, reporting, and editing interesting reports and analytical pieces for publication
  • Gathering material for broadcast on news topics and events that is reflective of the audiences we serve
  • Provide timely, specialist, and self-assured news coverage 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Experience in reporting on and analyzing legal matters at the national level is an essential requirement.
  • Focus on human rights, constitutional matters, and women’s rights issues.
  • Proficiency in writing and broadcasting in English is essential.
  • Work experience in the digital domain would be an advantage, any experience in making videos would be welcome.
  • Knowledge of Hindi/Marathi/Gujarati/Tamil/Telugu will be an added advantage.
  • A degree in Law is desirable, though not mandatory.
  • Understanding of legal processes, terms, and climate.
  • Decent network and contacts in the legal fraternity.
  • Passion for breaking news and writing ahead-of-the-curve stories.
  • Demonstrates balanced and impartial judgment. Makes appropriate editorial decisions, taking account of conflicting views where necessary.
  • Work in partnership with other reporters and producers.
  • Ability to convey story and program ideas and to contribute fully to the planning process.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
  • Adhere to the BBC’s values of impartiality and transparency in gathering and production of stories
